The Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation ‘Kan’ reported that Israel has proposed a new deal to Hamas, which includes the one-time release of all Israeli detainees held in Gaza.
In exchange, Hamas’s political bureau chief, Yahya Sinwar, and his associates would be granted safe passage out of Gaza, effectively aiming to end the ongoing Gaza conflict.
According to the report, the new proposal also suggests the release of Palestinian prisoners, disarmament of the Gaza Strip, and the implementation of a new governance mechanism in Gaza.
Gal Hirsch, the Israeli Coordinator for Prisoners and Missing Persons, met with several families of Israeli detainees this week to discuss the new proposal.
Hirsch revealed that the proposal, dubbed the “Safe Passage Deal,” was presented during his last week’s meetings with U.S. officials at the White House and the State Department.
An unnamed Israeli official told ‘Kan’ that the proposal was introduced as “Plan B.”
The official stated, “Given the difficulties facing the negotiations and the looming deadline that threatens the lives of the hostages, we would like to propose an alternative plan that could shorten the phases and allow for a quicker deal.”
He added, “This would occur if Sinwar leaves Gaza and ends the war. It would enable us to achieve our war objectives and allow the Hamas leadership in Gaza to relocate to a safe place.”
The “Safe Passage Deal” represents a critical and strategic attempt by Israel to accelerate the resolution of the hostage situation and potentially bring an end to the conflict in Gaza.
