Amid ongoing discussions about the “day after” in Gaza, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant stated on Sunday that Israel will not accept the continued rule of Hamas in the Gaza Strip at any stage during the war-ending process and is exploring alternatives to Hamas.

Studying an Alternative Governing Entity
Gallant added in a statement, “While we carry out our crucial military operations, the defense establishment is simultaneously studying an alternative governing entity to Hamas.”

He further stated, “We will isolate areas (in the Gaza Strip) and remove Hamas elements from those areas, and deploy forces that will enable the formation of an alternative government… an alternative that threatens Hamas.”

“We Will Not Accept Hamas Rule in Gaza”
Gallant also mentioned in a statement from the Southern Command Headquarters of the Israeli Army that the army’s operation, along with finding potential governing alternatives, will allow for the removal of Hamas from power and the release of hostages.

He clarified, “We will not accept Hamas rule in Gaza at any stage of any operation aimed at ending the war.”

However, he did not provide further details about the potential alternatives.

War Cabinet Meeting
The Israeli War Cabinet, which includes Gallant as a member, is scheduled to hold a meeting later today, according to Israeli media reports.

The meeting comes after US President Joe Biden presented a framework agreement to end the war in Gaza. While initially welcoming the initiative, Hamas has not indicated willingness to step aside or disarm voluntarily.
