The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed on Saturday that a Friday airstrike in Beirut had eliminated several top commanders of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force, including Ibrahim Aqil, the head of Hezbollah’s military operations.
The strike killed 16 members of Hezbollah, including two senior commanders, as they met in the basement of a Beirut residential building.
The IDF named 11 senior Radwan Force officials among those killed, delivering a major blow to Hezbollah.
The Radwan Force leads Hezbollah’s ground operations in southern Lebanon.
Aqil was also involved in a long-term plan to invade the Galilee. Ahmed Wahbi, Hezbollah’s head of training and a former Radwan commander, was also killed in the strike.
The incident has escalated tensions, pushing both sides closer to a full-scale conflict.
