Despite the immense military and technological capabilities of the Israeli forces, supported by the United States, it seems that the Israeli army has downed a significant number of its drones during the war in the Gaza Strip.
This was revealed by a US Marine Corps official, indicating that the Israeli forces destroyed 40% of their aerial drone systems.
Lieutenant Colonel Michael Broden, speaking at the Day Marine exhibition, highlighted that Israeli drones that were destroyed were downed by friendly fire.
While no additional details were provided about this statistic, including the timeframe, Broden hinted that these data came from ongoing military operations in Gaza since October 7th of last year.
He further explained that the difference between the time a drone is detected and the time it can execute an attack is usually measured in seconds, as reported by The Jerusalem Post.
Broden also noted that the Israeli army had previously acknowledged the accidental downing of its drones.
He believes that these mistaken interceptions are a problem that will worsen as the number of drones flying increases.
The current Israeli defense system includes Arrow 3 and Arrow 2 missiles, with the Iron Dome and the David’s Sling missile defense systems.
The upcoming addition to the defense system is the laser air defense system, Iron Beam. This system, developed by Rafael, is designed to intercept various missiles and drones using a laser beam with a power of about 100 kilowatts.
However, if the detection system does not improve, this system could also intercept friendly drones.
Broden serves as the head of the Marine Corps Command and Control Integration branch within the Combat Development and Integration Command.
