Armed Iraqi factions announced this Sunday dawn that they targeted a vital Israeli facility in Haifa using drones. The Iraqi factions stated in a release, “Continuing our approach in resisting the occupation, in support of our people in Gaza, and in response to the massacres committed by the usurping entity against Palestinian civilians including children, women, and elders, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq targeted a vital objective in Haifa on our occupied lands this Sunday morning, August 25, 2024, using drones, and confirms the Islamic Resistance’s ongoing efforts to strike at the strongholds of the enemies.” On the previous Tuesday evening, the Iraqi factions targeted a vital facility in Eilat, Israel, in response to “massacres against Palestinian civilians.” Their statement on Telegram added, “Continuing our approach in resisting the occupation and supporting our people in Palestine, and in response to the massacres committed by the usurping entity against Palestinian civilians including children, women, and elders, the mujahideen of the Islamic Resistance in Iraq targeted a vital objective in occupied Umm al-Rashrash ‘Eilat’ on the evening of Tuesday, August 20, 2024.”

Since the recent eruption of the Gaza war, there have been several reported attacks by Iraqi factions against Israel. The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, a coalition of Iranian-backed militias, has been notably active. This group, in collaboration with the Houthis, has targeted Israeli territories including Haifa and Eilat with drone attacks. These actions appear to be part of a broader strategy aligned with Iranian directives to intensify military actions against Israel. These incidents have occurred amidst a larger context of escalating hostilities in the region, with various groups within the Axis of Resistance, which includes Lebanese Hezbollah and Palestinian factions, also participating in operations against Israeli targets.

The Islamic Resistance in Iraq claimed responsibility for a combined drone attack with the Houthis on an unspecified “vital target” in Eilat on July 8, 2024. This was reported as part of a series of attacks conducted since early June 2024. Additional attacks in Eilat and Haifa were also claimed by this group, illustrating a pattern of increased hostility and coordination among these factions
