Hussein Allawi, an advisor to the Iraqi Prime Minister, emphasized Iraq’s commitment to regional issues, particularly the Palestinian cause, during an interview with Al Arabiya Al Hadath on Tuesday. He stated that Iraq provides clear stances and direct political support for the Palestinian issue, which garners the attention of countries worldwide.
Allawi explained that the Iraqi government has managed to restore balance through internal dialogue, but the major crisis now is the situation in Gaza. This crisis is being managed effectively by the Iraqi government in collaboration with Iraqi political forces to maintain stability and prevent the country from slipping into an open war.
Despite long periods of stability and immunity from past conflicts inherited from previous administrations, Iraq has recently felt the repercussions of the escalating Gaza crisis. Increased activities against Iraqi military bases have been noted, which Allawi attributed to external influences.
The Prime Minister of Iraq has engaged in strategic dialogues with the United States and international coalition partners, leading the High Military Committee to significant progress in ending the coalition’s duties and transitioning to bilateral relations.
Allawi also highlighted the Iraqi Armed Forces’ continued wise management of war and peace decisions. He pointed out that the Iraqi government and political forces are tackling challenges to support Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani’s steps and decisions. The Iraqi Foreign Minister previously affirmed that Iraq’s national security strategy prioritizes Iraq’s interests first.
The government is engaging in dialogues to prevent a return to escalation, maintaining Iraq’s national interests. There is a social commitment to peace and stability, and factions should consider this in the context of the state’s interests and the political trajectory Iraq is leading towards recognizing the Palestinian issue.
