Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdollahian has announced that an economic trilateral conference with Saudi Arabia and Turkey will be held in the coming period.
According to statements reported by international news agencies, the minister also mentioned Turkey’s welcoming stance on the resumption of diplomatic relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry has indicated that its ambassador to Saudi Arabia will soon depart for Riyadh to head Tehran’s diplomatic mission, which reopened in early June after a seven-year hiatus.
The newly-appointed Iranian envoy to the Kingdom, Ali Reza Enayati, met with Abdollahian last Saturday. He presented his final report before heading to Riyadh, as per the ministry’s statement.
Tehran officially reopened its embassy in Riyadh this June, followed by its consulate in Jeddah and its representative office at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Both parties agreed to restore relations in a pact signed in Beijing last March, brokered by China. This agreement came after five rounds of direct talks hosted by Iraq, with mediation and assistance from Oman.
Amir Abdollahian visited the embassy in mid-August when he traveled as the top diplomat to the Kingdom to hold meetings with his counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Abdollahian’s visit to the Kingdom came on the heels of hosting his Saudi counterpart in Tehran in mid-June, where both advocated for the restoration of ties.
