The Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Mohammad Bagheri, on Saturday, labeled the attack on Iran’s consulate in Damascus as a “crazy step” in which Washington was complicit.

The Iranian military chief announced that the retaliation for the assassination of Revolutionary Guards commander Mohammad Reza Zahedi, who died in the attack, would occur at an appropriate time and place. During Zahedi’s funeral procession, Bagheri emphasized that the retaliation for his killing would make the enemy regret their actions, stating that Iran would determine the manner of revenge.

Bagheri declared that Israel’s lifespan has ended, predicting its imminent disappearance and decline. The Iranian consulate in Damascus was bombed last Monday, resulting in the death of 13 individuals, including Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi of the Quds Force, the Revolutionary Guards’ external operations branch.

U.S. officials have indicated that Israel and the United States believe Iran is preparing to retaliate for the Israeli strike on the Iranian consulate in Syria. It is suspected that Iran may target an Israeli embassy with cruise missiles and drones, according to a report by CBCNews. U.S. intelligence suggests Iran plans a retaliatory attack involving a fleet of drones and cruise missiles. While the timing and target remain uncertain, officials expect a response to the Damascus strike to be a hit on an Israeli diplomatic facility, likely before the end of Ramadan.

The launch points for the drones and missiles, whether from Iraq, Syria, or Iranian territory, remain unknown. Israelis have publicly warned they would retaliate against any Iranian strike, suggesting an Iranian attack on an Israeli facility could ignite a regional war.
