As international efforts work to prevent escalation in the Middle East, Iranian news agency IRNA reported on Wednesday that Iran has equipped its eastern military sites with radar systems, missile platforms, and locally-made drones. This upgrade took place in the presence of Air Defence Commander Ali Reza Sabahifard.
This development coincides with renewed assertions from Iran’s military leaders that they will respond to the assassination of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. Iran has emphasised that Israel’s targeted killings will not go unanswered.
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah also reiterated on Tuesday that there will be a response to the assassinations of both Hezbollah military commander Fuad Shukr and Haniyeh.
Concerns about a military escalation between Iran, its allies, and Israel have intensified following the recent assassinations of Haniyeh in Tehran and Shukr in a southern Beirut strike attributed to Israel.
While Israel has neither confirmed nor denied responsibility for Haniyeh’s assassination, the heightened tensions have prompted the United States to bolster its military presence in the region. This includes deploying additional warships and fighter jets to safeguard its troops and ally, Israel.
International parties are actively working on multiple fronts to prevent further escalation in the region.
