The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Summit announced a potential meeting between the leader of the Sudanese Army, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, and the leader of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo Hemedti.
Sources from Al Arabiya/Al Hadath reported, on Wednesday, that preparations have been made for a productive meeting between the two conflicting parties tomorrow, as organized by the IGAD.
The sources added that the arrangements for the meeting between Al-Burhan and Hemetti, scheduled for Thursday, have been completed. Additionally, it was announced that both parties have confirmed their agreement to meet.
Despite these updates, a member of Hemetti’s advisory office announced early Wednesday that no official invitation for a meeting with Al-Burhan had been delivered to the leader of the Rapid Support Forces. However, Hemetti confirmed in a tweet on Tuesday his readiness for the meeting.
Furthermore, a statement from the Rapid Support Forces denied rumors circulating on social media platforms that the second leader of the RSF, Abdel Rahim Hamdan Dagalo, would be meeting with Al-Burhan.
This was considered an attempt to overshadow the statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which had withdrawn from the commitments of the IGAD summit held in Djibouti last Saturday.
