The Houthis announced on Monday that they successfully shot down a U.S. MQ-9 drone over the Dhamar Governorate using a locally manufactured surface-to-air missile.
The group added that this is the third drone of its kind to be downed within a week and the tenth since the onset of the Israeli assault on Gaza.
“Our operations will not stop until the Israeli aggression ceases, and the siege on the Palestinian people in Gaza is lifted,” the Houthis stated.
On Sunday, the Yemeni Houthi group also claimed responsibility for launching a ballistic missile that, for the first time, reached central Israel.
According to the group’s military spokesperson, the operation was carried out using a new hypersonic ballistic missile, which successfully hit its target. “The enemy’s defenses failed to intercept and counter it,” the spokesperson said.
The missile “caused panic and fear among the Israelis, with over two million people rushing to shelters for the first time in Israeli history,” he added.
The spokesperson also noted that the missile traveled 2,040 kilometers in just 11 and a half minutes, causing widespread fear in Israel. “The Israeli occupation should expect more strikes and unique operations in the coming days,” he warned.
