Yemen’s Houthi group asserted on Tuesday that it had conducted attacks targeting Israel’s city of Eilat and six ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden over the past 72 hours.

According to Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree, dozens of ballistic missiles and drones were launched towards Eilat in southern Israel. Additionally, the group claimed to have targeted the Maersk Saratoga, APL Detroit, the Huang Pu, and Pretty Lady, identifying them as US and British ships, as well as two US destroyers.

Saree emphasized that the Houthis would continue their attacks in solidarity with the Palestinian people, although there has been no official response from the US regarding the Houthi claim.

The Houthis have been targeting cargo ships in the Red Sea owned or operated by Israeli companies or involved in transporting goods to and from Israel, in support of the Gaza Strip. These attacks come amid escalating tensions due to US and UK airstrikes against Houthi sites in Yemen.

With the Red Sea serving as one of the world’s most heavily trafficked sea routes for oil and fuel shipments, these recent attacks raise concerns about the security of maritime trade routes in the region.
