The Houthi rebel group in Yemen has announced that it targeted two US destroyers in the northern Red Sea.

According to a report by Reuters, the Houthis also claimed to have attacked the vessel “Conship Uno” with several ballistic missiles in the same area.

In their statement, the Houthis specified that they aimed at the American destroyers as they were navigating towards the northern section of this critical maritime corridor.

The Houthi attacks in the Red Sea have significantly disrupted global shipping routes, compelling many companies to reroute their vessels on longer, more costly journeys around South Africa.

These actions have also heightened concerns about the potential expansion of the conflict in Gaza.

Since November 19, the Houthis have launched dozens of attacks on commercial ships and tankers in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and Arabian Sea, targeting those suspected of having ties to Israel or destined for Israeli ports.

The Houthis state that these operations are in support of Gaza.

In response to these threats, US and British forces have conducted several strikes against Houthi positions in Yemen since January 12.
