A missile fired by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels landed in central Israel early Sunday, triggering air raid sirens at Ben Gurion International Airport.
The missile, part of the ongoing reverberations from the nearly yearlong Gaza conflict, landed in an open area, causing no casualties or major damage.
Footage from Israeli media showed people racing to shelters at the airport. While the airport resumed normal operations soon after, local media reported fires in rural areas and displayed images of debris, including a fragment of an interceptor found at a Modiin train station.
The Israeli military attempted several interceptions but has not confirmed if any were successful. The missile is believed to have fragmented midair, with explosions caused by interceptors.
The Houthis have launched missiles and drones at Israel since the Gaza conflict began, but most have been intercepted over the Red Sea.
