Hamas affirmed on Monday that the recent Israeli offensive in Rafah is considered to be a genocide and forced displacement of the Palestinian people.
According to a statement released on their Telegram channel, Hamas condemned the Israeli military’s “Nazi-like assault” on Rafah, which involved “horrific massacres against defenseless civilians, including displaced children, women, and the elderly, resulting in over a hundred martyrs thus far.”
Hamas described the attack as a “compound crime” that exacerbates the “genocide” and expands the scope of massacres against the Palestinian populace, particularly in light of the dire conditions in Rafah.
The city, overwhelmed by approximately 1.4 million residents and transformed into makeshift camps for displaced individuals, is facing extreme hardships due to a lack of basic living necessities.
The statement also criticized Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s government and its military for disregarding recent International Court of Justice rulings, which called for immediate measures to halt actions that could be deemed as acts of genocide.
Furthermore, Hamas holds the U.S. administration and President Biden personally responsible for the massacre, citing the “green light” they allegedly provided to Netanyahu and the ongoing financial, military, and political support that enables the continuation of these atrocities.
Hamas has called on the Arab League, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, and the United Nations Security Council to urgently and seriously intervene to stop the “Zionist aggression” and ongoing genocide against unarmed civilians in the Gaza Strip.
