Hamas responds to a Paris proposal allowing a 40-day initial ceasefire, dismissing leaks as “psychological warfare” and refusing to compromise on permanent ceasefire demands.
Earlier, a senior official close to Gaza ceasefire talks stated that Hamas received the proposal, including commitments to allow 500 aid trucks daily into Gaza, provide thousands of tents and caravans, repair bakeries and hospitals, and exchange Palestinian and Israeli prisoners at a ratio of 10 to 1.
President Joe Biden announces Israel’s agreement not to engage in military activities in Gaza during Ramadan, highlighting a principle agreement to halt hostilities between Israel and Hamas during hostage releases.
Biden warns of Israel risking global support amid continued Palestinian casualties and notes Israel’s commitment to allowing Palestinian evacuations from Rafah in southern Gaza before intensifying its campaign against Hamas.
The ongoing conflict between the Israeli army and Hamas for over four months has displaced hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, pushing approximately 2.2 million people, the vast majority of the Strip’s population, to the brink of famine.
