In the wake of recent military strikes led by the United States targeting Houthi rebels in Yemen, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called on both the American-led coalition and the Houthi insurgents to abide by a resolution passed by the UN Security Council.

Guterres, in a statement released on Friday in New York, expressed his concern over the unacceptable attacks by Houthi rebels on commercial vessels.

He emphasized that these assaults pose a threat to the safety and security of global supply chains, with negative impacts on the economic and humanitarian situations worldwide.

The UN Secretary-General urged the Houthi rebels to comply with the recent resolution issued by the Security Council, which calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities.

Simultaneously, he emphasized the importance of all UN member states whose ships have been targeted to adhere to international law as outlined in the resolution.

Guterres called on all involved parties to refrain from escalating the situation further in the interest of peace and stability in the Red Sea and the broader region.

This development comes in the aftermath of military actions carried out by the United States against the Houthi rebels, prompting a response from the UN Secretary-General to address the growing tensions in the region.

It is essential to highlight the global implications of the Houthi attacks on maritime trade routes and emphasize the significance of upholding international law to ensure the safety of commercial shipping.

As tensions rise, Guterres’ call for restraint and adherence to the UN resolution underscores the urgency of finding a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Yemen.

In conclusion, the international community is closely monitoring the situation, and the UN Secretary-General’s appeal for cooperation and adherence to the resolution serves as a pivotal moment in addressing the escalating tensions in the region.
