Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis began his duties on Sunday after the parliament granted his government a vote of confidence for a second term lasting four years.
This comes two weeks after the victory of the “New Democracy” party in the legislative elections.
According to Agence France-Presse, Mitsotakis secured the confidence of 158 deputies out of 300 last Saturday, following three days of discussions in the Greek parliament regarding the government’s intended public policies during Mitsotakis’ second term.
The agency noted that the “New Democracy” party won 158 seats in parliament.
In the legislative elections held on June 25th, the “New Democracy” party achieved victory, obtaining 40.56% of the votes, compared to 17.8% for its leftist rival, the “Syriza” party.
Mitsotakis took the constitutional oath last week, pledging to accelerate the reform process in Greece during his second term.
He stated last Saturday that “the elections have shown that Greece has entered an era of major changes. The task entrusted to the majority party is to swiftly move towards these changes.”
