The Greek National Intelligence Service and counterterrorism units are on alert following alerts from international security agencies regarding possible retaliatory attacks on Israeli interests in Greece.
This comes after the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran.
Greek intelligence was advised to exercise caution as Iran might seek vengeance by targeting Israeli entities not on its own soil but in third countries such as Greece.
Recent incidents include the arrest of two individuals in March 2023 plotting an attack in Athens, and arson attempts on Israeli properties in mid-2024.
Now, with tensions escalating in the Middle East, Greece anticipates potential new threats against Israeli targets.
There is also foreign service cooperation with the authorities of Cyprus, where Iran has tried to carry out a terrorist attack, with the most recent case recorded in December 2023.
Israel has informed Lebanon and Iran through diplomatic channels that it is ready for a comprehensive war.
Sources added that the security establishment in Israel is preparing for a range of possible responses, including attempts to breach the northern border.
Meanwhile, Head of Iran’s Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, Kamal Kharrazi, warned Tel Aviv about escalating tensions in the region, suggesting that Netanyahu should end the brutal war in the Gaza Strip.
Kharrazi dismissed Israel’s claim about the incident in the occupied Golan as a repetition of its previous allegations following the bombing of Al-Mamadani Hospital in Gaza, which resulted in the martyrdom of 500 civilians.
“Israel now aims to expand the war by accusing Hezbollah of the attack on the occupied Golan,” Kharrazi stated.
He called the Zionists’ claim ridiculous, noting that the residents of the occupied Golan opposed the Zionist regime and protested during the Israeli premier’s visit.
