Google announced the expansion of its AI chatbot, Bard, into Europe and Brazil on Thursday. This significant move since its launch in February positions it directly in competition with Microsoft-supported ChatGPT.
Both Bard and ChatGPT are chatbots designed to mimic human conversation using generative AI, inciting worldwide interest as well as careful scrutiny.
Companies are investing heavily in AI, with billions spent in anticipation of significant returns in advertising and cloud revenue.
Earlier this week, Elon Musk also unveiled his much-anticipated AI startup, xAI, which boasts a team that includes former engineers from Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI.
Google also introduced new global features to Bard. “As of today, Bard is capable of collaboration in more than 40 languages, including Arabic, Chinese, German, Hindi, and Spanish,” said Google’s senior product director, Jack Krawczyk, in a blog post.
He pointed out that hearing things aloud could offer a fresh perspective on ideas, which is particularly useful when trying to learn the correct pronunciation of a word or when listening to a poem or script.
Users can now modify Bard’s response style and tone, ranging from simple, long, short, professional to casual. Additional features include pinning or renaming conversations, exporting code to various locations, and incorporating images in prompts.
