In a groundbreaking event, Riyadh is set to host the first international conference on conjoined twins from November 24-25, 2024. The conference, which marks the 30th anniversary of the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program, is sponsored by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and organized by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center.
This unique conference will see the participation of ministers, leaders, and global experts in the medical and humanitarian fields related to the separation of conjoined twins.
The event coincides with the recently established International Day for Conjoined Twins, an initiative led by Saudi Arabia and recognized by the United Nations.
Since its inception in 1990, the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program has been a pioneer in this medical field, successfully performing 61 separation surgeries and medically evaluating 139 cases from 26 countries.
The conference will feature ministerial sessions, specialized scientific discussions, humanitarian sessions, side events, workshops, and exhibitions focusing on children with special needs and their humanitarian aspects.
On the sidelines of the conference, several agreements will be signed with international and UN organizations dedicated to children’s welfare worldwide, highlighting Saudi Arabia’s ongoing humanitarian efforts to support vulnerable groups, particularly children.
The conference is expected to generate significant recommendations that will enrich medical and humanitarian libraries and serve as a reference for specialists in the field of conjoined twins separation and humanitarian work.
