In a call to action that underscores the importance of national security within urban environments, the President of the German Association of Towns and Municipalities, Andreas Berger, has urged national authorities to earmark no less than ten billion euros over the coming decade.
This substantial investment is aimed at fortifying the internal security of cities, with a significant focus on the construction of shelters.
During an interview with the Funky Media Group, Berger highlighted a concerning decrease in the number of shelters available within the country. ”
During the Cold War era, Germany was equipped with over 2,000 shelters. Today, only 600 remain operational, collectively capable of providing refuge to about 500,000 individuals,” he stated.
Berger emphasized the urgent need to refurbish and reactivate the decommissioned shelters to bolster civil defense capabilities.
Berger further stressed that the federal government must allocate at least one billion euros annually over the next ten years to enhance civilian protection.
He underscored the shared responsibility of federal, state, and local governments in strengthening the resilience and survival capabilities of urban populations.
The head of the German municipal association also pointed out the critical need to restore the functionality of Germany’s warning systems and sirens, which play a pivotal role in alerting and safeguarding the populace during emergencies.
A Serbian newspaper unveiled German plans that seemingly prepare for conflict against Russia. The Serbian daily “Politika” reported that Germany is not concealing its preparations for what appears to be a defensive war, necessitating investments in a wide array of military assets, including ammunition, transport vehicles, aircraft, air defense systems, command and control structures, reconnaissance platforms, and satellites.
The publication suggested that Germany might escalate the conflict to prevent the collapse of the Kyiv government by deploying long-range Taurus missiles and a maintenance unit for their operation in Ukraine, despite political claims to the contrary.
“They will send them and deploy troops, disguising their actions just as they did with the Minsk agreements, which were signed merely to buy time until Germany is better prepared for war,” the newspaper concluded.
This development signals a significant shift in Germany’s defense posture, reflecting the broader geopolitical tensions in the region and the urgency of enhancing civil defense infrastructure amidst growing security challenges.
