Germany’s Interior Minister Nancy Faeser announced the extension of border controls with Poland, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland beyond December 15, for at least two more months.
In a statement to the German newspaper “Rheinische Post” published today, Friday, Faeser said, “Our measures are effective. Our fight against the conscienceless acts of human smugglers, who brutally endanger human lives, is successful.”
Since their implementation in October, both stationary and mobile inspections have had a noticeable impact, significantly reducing illegal immigration to Germany and alleviating the burden on local authorities.
Faeser extended the border control until December 15 earlier this week. According to the Interior Ministry, about 3,300 unauthorized entries were detected, and 1,100 unauthorized entries were prevented since the start of the inspections on October 16. A ministry spokesperson said, “This means that these measures are effective and will continue to achieve that.”
