A revised plan outlining the path to legalizing cannabis in Germany is set to be presented to the cabinet by mid-August, as per recent reports. The timeline for the process of legalising adult-use cannabis in the country is becoming more defined.
Reports suggested that the updated legislation will be formally introduced to the government by mid-August.
According to the new proposals, cannabis would initially be removed from the list of controlled substances under the Narcotic Control Act, allowing individuals to possess up to 25 grams for personal use.
Additionally, individuals would have the right to cultivate up to four cannabis plants, and a network of Cannabis Social Clubs would offer cannabis access through a membership system.
In the subsequent phase, a trial period of five years will be implemented in select regions to evaluate the viability of commercial cannabis cultivation and sales at specialised points of sale or pharmacies, operating within a licensed and government-regulated framework.
The outcomes of these trials will be closely monitored and studied by scientific research organisations.
