The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasim Al-Badiwi, condemned on Monday the assault on the headquarters of the United Arab Emirates’ mission chief in Sudan. The GCC’s General Secretariat stated in a release, “Jasim Al-Badiwi strongly denounced the brazen assault on the headquarters of the UAE’s mission chief in the Republic of Sudan, which resulted in significant damage to the building.”
The statement added, “The Secretary-General urged the Sudanese government to make all efforts to protect diplomatic facilities and their staff.” It continued, “The Secretary-General emphasized that this attack represents a blatant violation of the fundamental principle of the inviolability of diplomatic premises and stressed the importance of protecting diplomatic buildings and the premises of embassy staff in accordance with the norms and conventions that govern diplomatic work.”
According to the statement, Al-Badiwi expressed “his strong condemnation of this assault, and the GCC’s steadfast and ongoing rejection of all forms of violence and terrorism that undermine security and stability and contravene international law.”
The United Arab Emirates condemned the assault on its mission headquarters in Khartoum on Sunday, executed via a Sudanese military aircraft. The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated in a statement that it “strongly condemns the vicious attack on the state’s mission headquarters in Khartoum, carried out by a Sudanese military aircraft, which caused substantial damage to the building, demanding the military take full responsibility for this cowardly act.”
The Foreign Ministry confirmed, “It will submit a protest note to the Arab League, the African Union, and the United Nations against this assault by the Sudanese armed forces, representing a gross violation of the basic principle of the inviolability of diplomatic premises.” The Ministry also stressed “the importance of protecting diplomatic buildings and the premises of embassy staff in accordance with the norms and conventions that regulate diplomatic work.” The Ministry also expressed “its strong condemnation of these criminal acts and its ongoing rejection of all forms of violence and terrorism that undermine security and stability and contravene international law,” as reported by the Emirates News Agency.
