Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Countries Strongly Condemn Desecration of the Holy Quran.
In a joint statement, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries have expressed their utmost condemnation for the heinous acts targeting the sanctity and sacredness of the Holy Quran.
These acts not only undermine the foundations of the Islamic faith worldwide but also violate their fundamental rights.
The statement was issued during an urgent discussion held at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, addressing deliberate and public displays of religious hatred through desecration of copies of the Holy Quran, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The GCC countries have expressed their concern over the escalating anti-Islam activities occurring around the world.
They emphasized that such phenomena undermine peaceful coexistence, fuel cultural tensions, destroy the bridges that have been diligently built between different cultures, and undermine the tireless efforts to promote tolerance and cross-cultural understanding.
The joint statement by the GCC countries called upon the international community to firmly stand against this rampant menace, which hides under the guise of freedom of expression.
It also urged the Human Rights Council to fulfil its responsibilities in addressing these violations.
The GCC countries urged member states of the Human Rights Council to take immediate and effective actions against all forms of anti-Islamic acts. They emphasized the importance of holding perpetrators accountable and preventing future occurrences.
The statement further highlighted that international law and relevant resolutions oblige states to protect the right to freedom of religion and belief for Muslims, including the right to practice their worship and the obligation to protect religious sanctities, while combating any acts of disrespect or aggression against the Holy Quran.
