The Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza issued an urgent appeal on Saturday, calling on the international community and humanitarian organizations to provide generators for hospitals in the Gaza Strip.
In a post on its Facebook page, the ministry stated that for the past nine months, it has relied on generators to supply hospitals with essential electricity around the clock after the only power plant in Gaza was destroyed.
The ministry reported significant technical failures in several hospital generators, which are difficult to repair, and noted that others have been directly destroyed by the Israeli military.
The ministry warned that without the entry of necessary spare parts for maintenance, the remaining generators in hospitals, health centers, and medical warehouses are at risk of stopping.
This would result in a complete shutdown of health services in Gaza, posing a severe threat to patients’ lives.
The ministry highlighted that Israeli forces deliberately targeted and destroyed generators at Al-Shifa Medical Complex, Nasser Medical Complex, the Indonesian Hospital, and Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, aiming to render them non-operational.
The ministry also pointed out that Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital is currently operating on a single generator after one of its two main generators broke down, signaling an impending humanitarian catastrophe.
The ministry has been in contact with international organizations, including the International Committee of the Red Cross, since the beginning of the conflict to procure new generators and spare parts, but has faced obstacles due to Israeli restrictions.
