As the war in Gaza continues for nine months, with rising civilian casualties, Israeli airstrikes targeted a house in the Al-Shati refugee camp on Tuesday.
According to Al Arabiya/Al Hadath, the Israeli bombing targeted the home of the family of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas’ political bureau, in the Al-Shati camp west of Gaza City.
The airstrike resulted in the death of 13 people in the house, including Haniyeh’s sister.
Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee stated that “Israeli aircraft, directed by military intelligence and Shin Bet, bombed two buildings in northern Gaza, eliminating several Hamas members, including those involved in the October 7 attack and the hostage-taking,” according to his claim.
Haniyeh had previously lost three of his sons (Hazem, Amir, and Mohammed) and three of his grandchildren in an Israeli airstrike on a car in the Al-Shati camp in April.
Since October 7, when the Israeli war on Gaza erupted following a Hamas attack on Israeli settlements and military bases around Gaza, 37,626 Palestinians have been killed, and 86,098 injured due to Israeli bombing.
International and regional efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in the devastated sector have so far failed, with some displaced residents nearing starvation due to the lack of food aid.
Hamas insists on a permanent cessation of the war and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from all of Gaza, which Israel refuses, talking instead of a temporary ceasefire.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu previously indicated in a television interview that he rejected a U.S. proposal for calm revealed by President Joe Biden weeks ago. However, he later stated that he accepted part of the proposal, a contradictory stance that has raised doubts about his true intentions.
