The lawyer of former Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir revealed that the bombing that hit Alia Hospital in Omdurman targeted the floor where al-Bashir and two other high-ranking officials of his previous regime reside.
The lawyer, Hashem Abu Bakr al-Ja’ali, stated on Sunday that al-Bashir and the other officials, Bakri Hassan Saleh and Abdul Rahim Mohammed Hussein, were unharmed by the bombing, as reported by the “Sudan Tribune” newspaper.
Earlier today, the Sudanese Doctors Syndicate announced that Alia Hospital had been bombed, causing damage.
The Sudanese army stated that Rapid Support Forces had bombed the emergency and injuries complex at the Medical Corps Hospital in Omdurman on Saturday, killing five patients and injuring 22, most of whom were civilians.
The army continued in a statement that the rapid support’s targeting of the hospital with drones represents a “continuation of its approach in violating international humanitarian law and all war customs.”
Sudan descended into civil strife between the army and rapid support on April 15th. The two sides have reached several ceasefire agreements mediated by Saudi and American parties, but the negotiations held in Jeddah were suspended last month after the conflict parties exchanged accusations of violating the truce.
It is worth noting that al-Bashir, who is on trial for charges related to his rule and responsibility for the “military coup” in 1989, was transferred to the hospital several months ago based on medical reports indicating his need for health care.
