The Libyan Court of Misdemeanors and Violations has handed down a suspended sentence of eight months to the former Chargé d’Affaires of the Libyan Mission to Argentina, as confirmed by a statement from the Attorney General’s Office.
According to the office’s Facebook page, the court found the mission official guilty of abusing his position’s authority by neglecting to accredit the financial controller, thereby violating the necessary procedures for reviewing financial operations and unilaterally managing bank accounts.
The statement further revealed that even after the termination of his job association, the former official continued to perform these duties. Consequently, he faced prosecution before the Court of Misdemeanors and Violations, which determined that he committed two instances of abusing job authority and failing to fulfill his job responsibilities.
In its ruling, the court imposed an eight-month prison sentence on the defendant, with the stipulation that the sentence be suspended, as outlined in the statement.
This development follows the Public Prosecution’s announcement on September 3rd, detailing the imprisonment of the Chargé d’Affaires of Libya’s mission to Argentina. The incarceration resulted from the official’s violation of financial operation review requirements due to his sole management of bank accounts.
