Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, announced today that the European Union has committed €10.4 million in aid to support Armenia, emphasizing that the EU will discuss further measures to assist Armenia during these challenging times.
President von der Leyen stated that the EU has expressed its support for Armenia on humanitarian grounds. The EU has condemned Azerbaijan’s military operations in the Nagorno-Karabakh region and called for a peaceful resolution.
Additionally, Charles Michel, President of the European Council, stressed the importance of helping Armenia strengthen its ties with Europe and fulfill previously pledged assistance.
This announcement comes after French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna’s visit to Armenia, during which she declared France’s support for Armenia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
This week, France also increased its aid to Armenia to €12.5 million.
The aid commitment from the European Union and its member states underscores their solidarity with Armenia and their determination to assist the country during these challenging times.
The situation in Nagorno-Karabakh remains a concern for international observers, with ongoing tensions and conflicts in the region.
