The EU naval mission protecting ships in the Red Sea reported that its frigate Psara destroyed an unmanned aerial drone in the Gulf of Aden on Sunday.

The Aspides mission, launched in February, responds to drone and missile attacks by Iran-backed Houthi militias targeting vessels in the region. The Houthis claim these attacks are acts of solidarity with Palestinians amid Israel’s war in Gaza.

Other nations, including the United States, also have naval forces operating in the area.

Although Iran denies arming the Houthis, citing a longstanding UN arms embargo, the US and its allies have intercepted multiple arms shipments intended for the insurgents in Middle Eastern waters.
