The European Commission, under the temporary crisis framework for state aid, has sanctioned a French plan valued at €720 million aimed at fortifying the forestry sector.

This initiative is expected to contribute towards the objectives of the European Union’s Common Agricultural Policy by enhancing the protection of forest environments.

According to a press release issued by the Commission on Saturday, France has outlined its strategy to support those working within the forestry sector to prevent and combat damages inflicted upon forests.

The plan will address damages caused by forest fires, natural disasters, harmful climatic events, plant pests, injuries, catastrophic events, and climate change-related incidents from 2023 to 2029.

This scheme is a segment of France’s forest renewal strategy extending to 2030, with the €720 million budgeted program set to continue until December 31, 2029.

The aid will be provided in the form of direct grants to businesses active in the forestry sector intending to implement preventive and combat measures.

The assistance will cover up to 100% of the eligible costs, ensuring substantial support for the sector’s sustainability and resilience against various threats.
