The European Union has pledged to allocate 2.12 billion euros from 2024 to 2025 to support and assist Syrians within Syria and those in neighboring countries, particularly in Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, and Iraq. This commitment was announced in a press release by the European Commission on the occasion of the eighth Brussels conference on “Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region.” The conference, which included delegates from EU member states, neighboring countries, other partner countries, donors, and international organizations including the United Nations, emphasized the importance of a political process in Syria in line with United Nations Security Council resolutions and the necessity to mobilize vital financial support to meet the urgent needs of the Syrian people and their host communities.

The statement added that the EU has renewed its commitment made at the 2023 Brussels conference to support the populations within Syria, as well as Syrian refugees and vulnerable host communities in Lebanon, Jordan, and Iraq. Additionally, the EU has pledged an extra 560 million euros for 2025 for the aforementioned countries and another billion euros to support Syrian refugees and vulnerable host communities in Turkey. Finally, the EU noted that the 2025 commitments are part of a larger financial package extending to 2027, in line with conclusions reached by the European Council on February 1 and April 18, 2024.

The EU concluded by affirming its intention to mobilize all available tools to support the Syrian people in reaching a negotiated political solution in line with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2254 and to facilitate conditions for a brighter future for all Syrians
