Tesla CEO Elon Musk met with India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his state visit to the United States, where he revealed that Modi was urging the carmaker to make a substantial investment in India.
Musk indicated that an announcement regarding this investment could be expected in the near future.
Prior to the meeting, sources had disclosed that Musk would discuss plans for establishing a manufacturing base in India.
Musk expressed his belief in India’s potential for a sustainable energy future, including the adoption of solar power, stationary battery packs, and electric vehicles.
Additionally, he expressed his interest in introducing SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet service to India.
Musk praised Modi’s commitment to India and stated that Tesla intends to make significant investments in the country as a result.
He further conveyed his confidence that Tesla will establish a presence in India as soon as possible.
Following the meeting, the spokesperson for India’s foreign ministry tweeted that Modi had invited Musk to explore investment opportunities in the electric mobility and commercial space sectors in India.
