Egyptian officials in Paris have completed the procedures for the release of wrestler Mohamed Ibrahim Kisho, who was arrested early Friday on charges of assaulting a French woman.
The Egyptian delegation, including Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi, Ambassador Alaa Youssef, and Yasser Idris, President of the Egyptian Olympic Committee, worked around the clock for the past 48 hours to finalize Kisho’s legal release and prepare for his return to Egypt on Saturday.
An official agreement was reached with French authorities to resolve the matter and close the case. Kisho is scheduled to travel directly to Cairo upon his release.
Olympic Committee Decides to Refer Kisho to Disciplinary Committee
Yasser Idris has decided to refer Mohamed Ibrahim Kisho to the Committee for Bodies, Clubs, and Values, chaired by Major General Sherif El-Khamati, for investigation into the alleged misconduct.
This decision comes after Kisho’s participation in the Olympic Games and shortly before his return to Egypt.
Idris has tasked Dr. Alaa Jabr, Head of the Egyptian Delegation, and Engineer Abdel Aziz Ghoneim with investigating Kisho’s absence.
According to the head of the wrestling federation and the wrestling delegation, Kisho left the team with permission from the head of the delegation to watch the final match in his weight category but did not return to the delegation headquarters and turned off his phone.
Idris has requested the Committee for Bodies, Clubs, and Values to strictly enforce regulations regarding Kisho and any other responsible members of the wrestling delegation.
If Kisho is found guilty, the punishment could include permanent expulsion from both domestic and international wrestling.
Details of the Incident
According to “Le Parisien,” Mohamed Kisho, who won a bronze medal in the 67 kg Greco-Roman wrestling category at the Tokyo Olympics and was eliminated from the Paris Olympics in the Round of 16 by Azerbaijan’s champion, is the subject of the incident. The newspaper reported that the alleged incident occurred at 4:30 AM when Kisho was arrested by French police on a highway.
The police investigation revealed that Kisho allegedly touched a woman’s buttocks on the street after leaving a café, where he had spent a considerable amount of time. The Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation into the assault.
Kisho had been eliminated from the competition after losing to Azerbaijan’s Jafarov in the semifinals, who subsequently lost to Ukraine’s champion, preventing Kisho from competing for the bronze medal. Kisho lost to the Azerbaijani champion with a score of 9-0 in the 67 kg Greco-Roman wrestling event.
