Members of the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) from the Al-Bayda branch provided food aid to residents in Libya’s Wadi-al-Ahmar region, near the Qasr Al-Muqaddam area.
The relief goods were transported using an Egyptian Air Force Chinook helicopter, as reported by the branch’s statement on their Facebook page this past Sunday.
The delivered aid consisted of food baskets sufficient to support 100 families in a remote area. Flooding, resulting from the “Daniel” storm, had rendered access roads to this area impassable.
Efforts are underway to restore these routes using temporary dirt connectors, according to the statement.
Last Saturday, the Al-Bayda Municipal Council announced a planned aerial trip to the regions of Al-Khuyamat and Silk Bo’askar to deliver relief consignments via Al-Abraq airport.
Due to infrastructural damage, the Municipal Council began repairing the Al-Ghariqa road, connecting the city to its southern regions.
They are also working to airlift essential supplies to these affected areas, noting the role of the Egyptian helicopter in transferring the aid.
The UN issued a stark warning about the dire condition of the Wadi Jaza Dam and the Al-Qattara Dam, located near the city of Benghazi in Libya.
It raised concerns about a potential catastrophic dam collapse in the eastern regions of the country.
According to a report published by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, as broadcasted by the Libyan TV channel “Al-Wasat,” both dams are rapidly filling with water.
