An Egyptian delegation headed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel El-Wazir, arrived in Baghdad to discuss collaborative ventures and the participation of Egyptian companies in Iraqi construction projects.
The delegation includes leaders from 13 major Egyptian firms specializing in infrastructure, roads, bridges, and developmental projects, as well as the heads of the General Authority for Roads and Bridges and the Authority for Land Transport Regulation.
Upon arrival, the delegation was received by Iraqi Transportation Minister Razzaq Muhaibis Al-Saadawi and Egyptian Ambassador to Iraq, Ahmed Samir.
During his visit, Minister El-Wazir is scheduled to meet with several high-profile Iraqi officials including Al-Saadawi, Iraqi Minister of Construction, Housing, Municipalities, and Public Works, Bankin Rikani, and Khaled Battal, Minister of Industry and Minerals, as well as the head of the Iraqi Investment Authority.
Discussions will focus on enhancing cooperation in transport and industry sectors and exploring opportunities for Egyptian companies specialized in infrastructure and developmental projects within Iraq.
Several Egyptian companies are already active in the Iraqi market across various sectors, bolstered by multiple cooperation agreements, the most recent of which was signed last year during the visit of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani to Cairo, where he met with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
Bassam Salem Hussein, head of the Iraqi Media and Communications Commission, noted last May the significant presence of Egyptian companies in Iraq’s telecommunications and IT sectors.
He highlighted the substantial investments by Egyptian companies in Iraq, especially in communications, which have executed major projects across various Iraqi provinces, achieving notable success.
Hussein also emphasized the large investments in transport and construction by both Egyptian and Iraqi companies, including the swift and high-quality construction of bridges and roads.
He pointed out a particularly significant bridge in Baghdad, completed by an Egyptian company in just 90 days, which significantly eased the city’s traffic congestion.
Additionally, Egyptian companies have been involved in building residential cities through Egyptian investors in the construction and reconstruction sector, reflecting the Iraqi government’s keen interest in expanding investment cooperation with the Arab Republic.
