Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Badr Abdelatty issued a warning on Wednesday about the dangers of escalating tensions in Lebanon, which could destabilize the region and lead to a full-scale war.
During a press conference with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi at the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the new administrative capital, Abdelatty emphasized the need for international recognition of the Palestinian state. He highlighted the critical role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in Gaza and stressed the importance of supporting its mission without any double standards in humanitarian aid.
Abdelatty condemned the ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza, calling them a stain on international legal systems. He firmly opposed Israel’s control over the Palestinian side of the Rafah border crossing, which has prevented aid from reaching Gaza and exacerbated the humanitarian crisis for Palestinians.
He also criticized Israel’s policies demanding Palestinians to leave areas in Gaza. Abdelatty underscored the alignment between Egypt and Jordan in their joint efforts to push for a ceasefire in Gaza, noting a shared vision and stance on the developments in the region.
The Israeli occupation continues its intense and unprecedented assault on Gaza by air, land, and sea, resulting in thousands of deaths and injuries, most of them women and children. The ongoing bombardment and hazardous conditions have prevented the retrieval of many casualties from the rubble. The blockade and severe restrictions on fuel and essential aid have further worsened the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza.
