Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi engaged in discussions on Thursday with a US delegation led by Democratic Party Senators Christopher Van Hollen and Jeffrey Merkley. The meeting, attended by Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, aimed to strengthen ongoing consultations between Egypt and the US, particularly in light of the current regional conditions, with a focus on the situation in the Gaza Strip.

Counselor Ahmed Fahmy, the Spokesman for the Presidency, highlighted that the American delegation sought a comprehensive understanding of President El-Sisi’s vision regarding the broader regional landscape.

In response, the President emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire, the exchange of detainees and hostages, the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid, and relief for displaced civilians.

He stressed the importance of initiating a serious path, with international consensus, towards a just and comprehensive settlement for the Palestinian issue, culminating in the establishment of an independent Palestinian State.

During the meeting, both sides unequivocally rejected any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians from their lands.

They underscored the necessity of working towards de-escalating the situation in the region to strengthen the foundations of peace and stability, both regionally and internationally.

The US delegation commended Egypt’s historical role and current tireless efforts as a proactive force for peace, stability, and development in the region.

The meeting reflects the ongoing diplomatic initiatives to address the pressing issues in the Middle East and promote international collaboration for a lasting and just resolution to the Palestinian question.
