Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from US President Joe Biden on Friday evening, focusing on the urgent efforts to broker a ceasefire in Gaza and facilitate the exchange of detainees.
According to the official spokesperson for the Egyptian presidency, the call was part of the intensified mediation efforts being undertaken by both Egypt and the United States.
The two leaders reviewed the latest developments in the negotiations currently being hosted in Cairo.
During the discussion, both presidents emphasized the importance of all parties involved overcoming obstacles and demonstrating flexibility to reach an agreement.
President Sisi underscored the critical importance of reaching an immediate ceasefire, highlighting its necessity to alleviate the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza and to prevent further escalation that could plunge the region into a wider conflict.
He stressed that the resolution of this conflict is crucial for the safety and stability of all people across the region.
