The Egyptian government has announced a significant collaboration with the UAE to add approximately 4 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy to Egypt’s national power grid, starting in the upcoming summer.

This initiative aims to enhance Egypt’s renewable energy capabilities and address the country’s growing energy demands.

The announcement came during a meeting between Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE’s Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and CEO of ADNOC and its group of companies.

The discussions focused on various aspects of renewable energy cooperation and the localization of related industries.

Dr. Sultan Al Jaber emphasized that solving Egypt‘s energy issues is feasible and requires a clear roadmap for the energy sector. He presented several strategies for short-medium-and long-term collaboration to address the energy challenges comprehensively.

Prime Minister Madbouly and Dr. Sultan Al Jaber agreed on an ambitious plan to expedite the integration of renewable energy into Egypt’s grid. The plan also includes efforts to localize industries associated with renewable energy.

Madbouly highlighted the crucial role of the private sector in executing these projects, especially companies with extensive expertise in the field.

He emphasized the urgency of advancing these initiatives, citing the robust political ties and ongoing cooperation between Egypt and the UAE as a foundation for achieving mutual benefits.

Madbouly pointed out the increasing energy consumption in Egypt, which recently surpassed 37.3 GW daily.

He stressed that the true solution lies in significantly expanding the integration of renewable energy into the national grid.

During the meeting, Madbouly also reviewed various collaborative projects in the transport sector with the UAE.

He expressed readiness to support the localization of industries related to renewable energy, including providing land for solar panel manufacturing and other renewable energy components.

This partnership between Egypt and the UAE marks a significant step towards enhancing Egypt’s renewable energy infrastructure and addressing the nation’s growing energy needs.

The collaboration underscores the commitment of both countries to sustainable development and mutual prosperity.
