An informed source from the Egyptian National Railways has revealed the latest developments in a significant deal involving the supply of 1,350 new train carriages to Egypt, marking the largest agreement of its kind between Russia and Egypt.

According to statements made to Masrawy, the source expects a new shipment of rail carriages to arrive in Egypt during the remaining period of November.

This shipment is part of the ongoing deal with Russia.

So far, more than 800 rail carriages have been delivered and received as part of the total order.

The Egyptian National Railways had contracted for 1,350 new carriages, including 850 air-conditioned units.

These comprise 500 third-class air-conditioned carriages, 50 third-class buffet carriages, 180 luxury second-class carriages, 90 luxury first-class carriages, and 30 air-conditioned buffet carriages, along with 500 dynamic ventilation third-class carriages.

This deal, encompassing 1,350 carriages, is the most substantial in the history of Egyptian railways in terms of the number, variety, and financial value of the carriages.

Notably, it’s the first time a production line will be established in Egypt for this purpose.

The agreement stipulates that the Russian company will set up a production line at Egypt’s Factory 200 for joint manufacturing of the carriages, with a minimum of 40% local components.

Additionally, the company will renovate the Kom Abu Radi workshops at a cost of 30 million Euros, included in the total cost of the deal.

This development represents a significant leap in modernizing Egypt’s railway system and reflects the growing industrial collaboration between Egypt and Russia.
