Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry was welcomed by Spanish Foreign Affairs José Manuel Albares. This meeting is part of Shoukry’s visit to the European Union headquarters, where he leads the Egyptian delegation at the 10th EU-Egypt Association Council meeting.
Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesperson and Director of Public Diplomacy at the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, reported that the ministers thoroughly discussed the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza.
They stressed the immediate need for a ceasefire and the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2720. This resolution focuses on facilitating, coordinating, and monitoring the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza to ensure its full and sustainable access.
Minister Shoukry praised Spain’s historical support for the Palestinian cause within the European Union. He emphasized the responsibility of the EU and other influential international players to intervene and end Israeli violations against Palestinian civilians in Gaza and the West Bank.
Shoukry asserted that an immediate ceasefire in Gaza can only be achieved through international pressure on Israel.
The Spanish Foreign Minister lauded Egypt’s significant efforts to resolve the crisis in Gaza, including the delivery of humanitarian aid and efforts to prevent the conflict’s escalation. He affirmed Egypt’s role as a key partner in peace and stability in the Middle East.
Abu Zeid also mentioned that the meeting covered ways to strengthen cooperation between Egypt and Spain, both bilaterally and within the framework of the partnership between Egypt and the European Union (EU).
The ministers expressed a mutual desire to advance various cooperation pathways and build on the friendly relations between the two nations. This includes aligning their positions on regional and international challenges.
