The Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army, Marshal Khalifa Haftar, received on Wednesday the Chief of the Egyptian General Intelligence, Abbas Kamel, and his accompanying delegation at his office in Benghazi.
The media office of the General Command of the Libyan National Army stated that Marshal Khalifa Haftar welcomed the visiting delegation, emphasizing the deep fraternal relations between Libya and its brother Egypt.
For his part, Minister Abbas Kamel conveyed greetings from the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to the Commander-in-Chief, expressing Egypt’s commitment and support for the unity and stability of Libya.
The two parties discussed the political developments in the Libyan crisis, stressing the importance of exerting all efforts to advance the political process for conducting presidential and parliamentary elections, and supporting the endeavors and efforts undertaken by the United Nations mission in Libya to create suitable conditions for organizing the electoral process.
Egypt and Libya have been actively enhancing their bilateral relations, marked by several high-level exchanges and agreements aimed at fostering stability and cooperation. The recent meetings between Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh have ushered in a “new phase” of cooperation. They discussed a range of issues including intensifying coordination and political consultation. This includes memorandums on resuming civilian flights which were suspended for six years, reflecting a strong commitment to re-establish and enhance air connectivity. Egypt hosted a meeting of key Libyan institutional stakeholders under the Arab League’s auspices to support a Libyan-led political solution and reinforce the role of Libyan institutions. Libya has signed agreements with Egyptian companies for the construction of 11 new bridges in Derna, Benghazi, and Ajdabiya.
