In a joint summit held in New Alamein city on Monday, leaders from Egypt, Jordan, and Palestine engaged in discussions regarding the evolving Palestinian issue. They collectively called for an end to the Israeli occupation, the attainment of a just peace, and the cessation of Israeli violations in the West Bank.
The leaders also emphasized the importance of respecting the Hashemite custodianship over the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque and putting a halt to settlement activities.
During the summit, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, King Abdullah II of Jordan, and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas affirmed their full support for the Palestinian President’s efforts in defending the interests of the Palestinian people across all fronts.
They emphasized the importance of regaining Palestinian rights, securing international protection, and providing assistance to the State of Palestine to ensure essential services and safeguard basic citizen rights under challenging circumstances.
The ongoing conflict and recurrent aggression in the occupied Palestinian territories, including Jerusalem, have taken a severe toll.
The leaders emphasized that resolving the Palestinian issue and achieving a just and comprehensive peace is not only a strategic choice but also a regional and international necessity.
It’s a matter of global security and peace. They emphasized that the only way to achieve this peace is through implementing United Nations resolutions, relevant Security Council decisions, and empowering the Palestinian people with their inalienable rights, while ending the Israeli occupation.
The leaders underlined the imperative for Israel to honor its commitments and obligations in accordance with international law, international humanitarian law, previous agreements, and international understandings, including those made with the Palestinian side. They also stressed the importance of Israel respecting its obligations as the occupying power in Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, and halting its incursions into occupied West Bank cities.
Furthermore, they emphasized Israel’s necessity to release the Palestinian funds it holds without legal justification, which contradicts agreements made on this matter.
The leaders condemned the ongoing and escalating unlawful Israeli practices that undermine the rights of the Palestinian people, violate international law, and undermine the internationally agreed-upon two-state solution. These practices fuel violence and chaos.
They highlighted the entirety of Al-Aqsa Mosque, spanning 144 dunams (approximately 36 acres), as a place of pure worship for Muslims. The management of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Waqf Affairs Department, under the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, hold exclusive jurisdiction over the management of all aspects of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
King Abdullah II of Jordan and President Mahmoud Abbas stressed the significance of Egypt’s role, under President El-Sisi’s leadership, in unifying the Palestinian ranks and ending division. This unity is in the best interest of the Palestinian people, as it strengthens their unified stance and determination in defending their cause.
The leaders also reiterated the importance of continued international support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), standing by the agency during its current financial crisis.
This support is crucial for providing essential services to Palestinian refugees, in line with its mandated responsibilities, until refugees can exercise their right of return as stipulated in Resolution 194.
