In a major move towards bolstering bilateral health ties, Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, held a series of meetings with Dr. George Apostolopoulos, head of the Athens Medical Group, at the group’s headquarters in Greece.
Historical Ties and Future Ventures Kicking off the meetings, Dr. Abdel Ghaffar emphasized the deep-rooted relations between Egypt and Greece, praising both nations’ strides in healthcare evolution. He expressed optimism for continuous collaboration bridges between the two nations.
Key on their discussion agenda was the potential of investing in eco-friendly medical facilities. Both parties also explored current Egyptian healthcare projects, aiming to lure more medical investments, which in turn could offer superior healthcare services to Egyptians.
Enhancing Medical Expertise and Training Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson of the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population, revealed that the meetings encompassed mutual medical expertise exchange, training programs, skill-sharing, and delving into Greece’s advanced medical systems. Discussions also veered towards the potential establishment of a medical college in Egypt in cooperation with Greece.
Further highlighting Egypt’s strengths, the minister underlined the nation’s high-caliber medical professionals and detailed the country’s milestones in healthcare, including presidential health initiatives, the “100 Days of Health” campaign, and the comprehensive health insurance system, guaranteeing global-quality healthcare for Egyptians.
Tourism, Telehealth, and Facility Tours Additionally, the parties explored collaboration in medical tourism. The significance of devising a specific plan and organizing regular meetings to maximize this sector’s potential was underlined. Telehealth and remote diagnosis were also broached.
Dr. George Apostolopoulos extended an invitation to the minister to tour the group’s advanced medical facilities and gain insights into the Greek healthcare system. The tour included specialized oncology centers and state-of-the-art medical laboratories. The Greek side also invited the minister to attend the opening of the group’s new wing this coming November.
Commending Egypt’s healthcare success, the Greek representatives acknowledged Egypt’s skilled and unique human capabilities and expressed Greece’s readiness to support Egypt’s health sector, including facilitating exchange training programs for medical teams from both countries.
Accompanying Dr. Abdel Ghaffar in the meetings was Dr. Hatem Amer, the Assistant Minister of Health and Population for International Health Relations, while the Athens Medical Group was represented by its CEO, Dr. Vasily Apostolopoulos, and its Vice-President, Mr. Christo Apostolopoulos.
