The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly denounced the attack on United Nations peacekeeping forces in the buffer zone of Cyprus.
The ministry reaffirmed its steadfast stance on the Cyprus issue, which is rooted in respecting relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
This statement was conveyed by Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through Twitter.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs elaborated that Egypt highly values the distinct and strategic relationship it shares with the Republic of Cyprus.
This response comes as Egypt closely monitors the recent developments in the buffer zone of Cyprus.
In an official statement released on Sunday, the Arab Republic of Egypt called for calm and urged a halt to any actions that could escalate tensions between the two halves of the island of Cyprus.
This call followed the incident involving an attack on United Nations peacekeeping forces in the buffer zone between the island’s two parts that occurred last Friday.
Egypt emphasized the importance of respecting the mandate of the UN peacekeeping mission and the relevant Security Council resolutions.
Additionally, Egypt stressed the need to avoid any actions that could further complicate the situation and alter the status quo along ceasefire lines and the buffer zone.
Furthermore, Egypt called for a return to the path of a comprehensive settlement for the Cyprus issue in accordance with the relevant Security Council resolutions.
