Ambassador Liao Liqiang, the Chinese ambassador to Cairo, has confirmed that after the completion of the “MisrSat-2” satellite project, Egypt will become the first African country to possess full capabilities for assembly, integration, and testing of satellites. This significant development is expected to greatly enhance the space industry in Egypt.
In his remarks during the contract signing ceremony for the electrical and mechanical model of the Egyptian satellite MisrSat-2, which was attended by the Minister of International Cooperation and the CEO of the Egyptian Space Agency, the ambassador praised the collaboration between Egypt and China in launching MisrSat-2 from China in October. The satellite is expected to play a prominent role in supporting economic and agricultural development through the implementation of transformative projects.
He highlighted that Egypt is the first country to cooperate with China in satellite technology as part of the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative. It is worth noting that in December 2014, Egypt and China signed a cooperation agreement to specify collaboration in remote sensing satellites. In January 2019, the two countries signed an agreement for the implementation of the “MisrSat-2” satellite.
