Dozens of Israeli settlers entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound through the Moroccan Gate, under the watch of Israeli police forces. According to a statement from the Jerusalem Governorate’s media office, the Israeli police subsequently closed the Moroccan Gate after 225 settlers stormed the site.
The Israeli police also tightened military security measures at the gates of the Old City and the Al-Aqsa Mosque, intensifying the tension in the area.
Jordan’s Minister of Awqaf (Islamic Endowments) Mohammad Al-Khalaileh condemned the incursion by the settlers into the mosque’s courtyards.
His remarks were reported by the official Jordanian news agency, Petra, reflecting the region’s sensitivity to actions perceived as provocative at the religious site.
In related developments, Belgium expressed its profound concern over the escalating situation caused by settler violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.
The Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement on the platform “X,” condemning the increased acts of violence against Palestinians.
“Belgium is deeply concerned about the serious situation in the West Bank,” the statement noted, emphasizing the need for an immediate cessation of attacks on civilians and for the perpetrators of such violence to be held accountable under international law.
The statement further highlighted that Belgium continues to denounce the illegal settlement activities that are hindering the achievement of lasting peace in the region.
